Introduction

The Squad was formed in 1985 by a group of coaches and shooters to provide coaching and training opportunities in the international pistol shooting (ISSF) disciplines. Since Feb '98, when the use of cartridge pistols was banned in most of the UK, we continued our activities with air pistols and added air rifle shooting to our activities.  Since 2013, we have included 0.22 rimfire at 50m.

We are open to shooters, who want to train with a coach's guidance.  You may want to get into the "National" Squad, or reach a standard where you can represent your region. The Squad can help.

Our aims:

  • To provide coaching and training opportunities in ISSF rifle and pistol events, for those aspiring to regional, Home Country, or National representation.
  • To promote ISSF shooting within the region, and provide teams for inter-regional competitions
  • To provide a coaching service outside of the Squad. e.g., Pony Club Tetrathletes, Modern Pentathletes, Coaching Clinics and Workshops, Coaches' and Range Officer courses.

Shooting disciplines

  • 10m: Pistol (precision and rapid) and Rifle
  • 25m: Sport Pistol, Standard Pistol, & Rapid Fire
  • 50m: Rifle, prone, and 3 position, Pistol

Quality

The coaches are NSRA-qualified at Regional or County level.  We are affiliated to the NSRA.

When and where?

Our 'home' for 10m & 50m rifle shooting in the WMRSC, Wolverhampton. There are at least 10 training days per year for precision shooting.

In addition, we run sessions for 25m pistol and the Junior Development Squad.

See our calendar.

Who is eligible?

You should have your own equipment, or have access to some.  You should live within the Region, as defined by Sport England. Click for map. If you live outside the Region, then as long as there is no similar squad in your region (NSRA has details), we welcome your application. For senior shooters, we want to hear from shooters who have open competition experience, with scores around 540 or 360 and are prepared to work to achieve their goals.  Young and junior (U21) shooters with some competition experience are especially welcome, but will be required initially to attend our Junior Development Squad sessions.
